CNeal Counseling

Cynthia Neal

Hello there!

I am a Psychiatric Mental-Health Nurse Practitioner.  I love to walk side by side with my clients as they face their internal conflicts, whether big or small.  I believe that ultimately a client’s answers lie within their own self, and it is my goal to provide them with the tools to be able to unearth those answers.

It has been quite a journey to finally end up in psychiatry.  I became a registered nurse after I graduated form the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in Community Health Education.  A few years later I received a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and became a Certified Nurse-Midwife.  I loved delivering babies and caring for women across the lifespan.  After years of practicing as a midwife, I felt that God made it very clear that I needed to pursue a degree in counseling, so I went back to UIC for a post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Nursing.  I have been trained to assess, diagnose and treat a wide variety of mental health concerns with both therapy and also by prescribing psychiatric medications.

Before I began my private practice, I worked for years with adolescents and adults at Erie Family Health, a non for profit organization created to provide services to the underserved in various neighborhoods in Chicago.  Most of my clients had some history of trauma either in childhood or as an adult.  It is working with people with some form of trauma in their history that has become my passion.  Most people in this very lost and troubled world have gone through trauma of some variety and loosening the hold that this has on life in the present is such an important step in healing.  Because of this area of focus, I recently went through basic training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and am blessed to be able to provide this technique to clients through my private practice.
